What is Wind Energy and Types of Wind Energy System

Wind energy refers to the power generated from the wind through the use of wind turbines. Wind turbines are devices that convert the kinetic energy from the wind into electricity. The amount of energy generated depends on the wind speed, the size of the turbine, and the efficiency of the system.



There are two main types of wind energy systems:

  1. Onshore wind energy systems: These are wind turbines that are installed on land, typically in rural areas or on farms. They are the most common type of wind energy system and can range in size from small turbines used to power homes to large turbines that generate electricity for the grid.

2. Offshore wind energy systems: These are wind turbines that are installed in bodies of water, typically in shallow seas or near the coast. Offshore wind energy systems are typically larger and more powerful than onshore systems, and they can generate more electricity due to the
stronger and more consistent wind speeds over water.



There are also two main types of wind turbines:

  1. Horizontal-axis wind turbines: These turbines have blades that rotate around a horizontal axis, like the blades of a helicopter. They are the most common type of wind turbine.




  1. Vertical-axis wind turbines: These turbines have blades that rotate around a vertical axis. They are less common than horizontal-axis turbines, but they can be more efficient in certain situations, such as in areas with turbulent wind.
